”Ah’ve tried,” she admitted slowly.“Once when ah was eleven, another time when ah was thirteen. Since then ah’ve realized that they’ll jus’ find me again.”
Merida flinched when she remembered how angry her dad had been. If there was ever a time Merida had been afraid of her father, it was then.
”Besides, my brothers need me. Ah have three now. They’re the only reason ah stick around.”
“Well, hey, here’s an i d e a. Now, it’s not one I would suggest to just anyone. You’d have to seriously impress me for me to even think about saying this.
But you’ve done just that, so here I go.
{Princess Merida, } right?
I understand the whole ‘need for adventure’ calling that you have. The whole rebellious phase is good, h e a l t h y, and quite frankly, I would be worried if you weren’t going through it.
So I’m going to offer you a deal. Again, this is a one time offer, a unique proposal only for you.
I’ll take you wherever you want to go. And when the time comes, and you’ve had enough of the outside world, I’ll bring you back home and you can continue being a princess where you follow orders and find a suitor to marry.
–but, it comes with a p r i c e. And you must be willing to pay whatever is asked of you when it’s time to pay your debts.”

Merida found it hard to admit to herself that she was enjoying the thief’s company and was disappointed that he would be leaving shortly. It was best for him, though.
”Ah mean that maybe ah can escape this place,” Merida explained, playing with her hands. “Bein‘ a princess is nae exactly my cup o’ tea. It’s borin' and nae who ah want tae be.”
— “All mah mum cares about is making me into the ’proper princess’. A princess strives for…perfection!”
Another Princess wanting out. He’d seen it before and in a way, he could understand. Wanting freedom and not being able to have it would suck. But living in such a place like a castle and being loved by your kingdom.. oh, the things he would do if he could have that. Instead, he had to grow up in an orphanage where he began to resent those of a higher class, all because they had a home, a family and food on their plate. The world works in strange and unfair ways.
“Here’s a question – now, I’m just going to be random and throw this out there, but.. why haven’t you ever l e f t then? You seem pretty capable on your own and it’s obvious you’re not enjoying yourself here.”
Merida stared at Rider in disbelief when he joked about her dad’s title. He had come to DunBroch in hopes of stealing something, but he had no knowledge of the clans? Her lip curled up in a smile and she began to chortle, completely caught off guard.
”Ah need somethin’ new in mah life,” Merida explained, calming herself down. She could still feel the giggles bubbling up in her stomach, but she forced them back down.“I figure you could be the chance I need to change mah fate.”
— “Though, yer fate might be endin’ pretty soon if the Bear King catches you,” she giggled.
“Don’t worry about me, I think I can handle myself. Besides, I have no plans to stick around any longer than I have to. I’m kind of a just get it done guy.”
His brow rose though and he was quite curious to know what she meant. “Care to elaborate there, Red? I mean, I’m not one for changing my own fate, mainly because I don’t believe in all that stuff, let alone someone else’s.”

He was a bit shocked at the image in front of him ; the girl with the bright red hair had a similar colored dress on– except there was something terribly wrong with this picture.
”A wise decision,” Merida said casually, matching his attitude. A mischievous whim came to the lass and she added, “After all, the B e a r K i n g might be surprised to hear his daughter was conversin’ with a thief.”
Merida added a little shrug for good measure and struggled to keep her face straight.
“Bear King, huh? Sounds– terrifying.” There was sarcasm, but if he’d seen what her father looked like, he might be biting back his words.
“So why are you conversing with a thief? Bored? Is this the kind of stuff you do for f u n?”
Merida laughed at Flynn, and smirked when she remembered the ridiculous posters put up. She glanced around quickly to make sure no one was around — she could just imagine the uproar if the princess was spotted with the thief.
”So, Flynn Rider,” she said, letting the name roll of her tongue, “what brings you to DunBroch? There’s many people lookin’ for you here, one of ‘em bein’ mah father.”
“Hmm. Well, I don’t know if I should tell you what I’m doing here. You might stop liking me and inform your father about my present and future plans that have to do with DunBroch.” Then, he gave her a shrug; he was casual about it all – maybe a little too casual with all the people that had it out for him right then. “Just.. some things. Stuff you don’t need to concern yourself with.”
