While he was wondering the sort of relationship the two had, Anna’s mind slipped into a panic. Pressing her back against the wall and feeling the door and wall on both side of her shoulders only made it worse. It felt like the room was closing in, becoming smaller. From the girl’s point of view, the dark room became darker and she couldn’t even see the turquoise vest in front of her.
She hated small spaces.
Closed off and wait— was the air getting thinner? Were they using all the air the closet had to offer?
— Oh gods they were never going to get out of here without getting caught. This was entirely pointless. The footsteps seemed like they were marching on forever and she worried they were patrolling the area, like they knew.
But they couldn’t have seen them, right? Flynn had to know what he was doing.
Anna tried to reassure herself with the fact that this man had a wanted poster and still avoided being captured. Escaping the authority was a second nature to him. Acknowledging that didn’t seem to help, the tightness in her chest continued to weigh heavily. They were going to be found, her identity known and— no no no, Anna didn’t want to go home, She couldn’t. She had so much freedom and the closet made her feel like it was about to come crashing down.
Her hands still cupped over her mouth, she pressed her lips firmly together and took a long deep breath through her nose. She could do this— just wait it out, no problem. Every other thief could do it, she couldn’t have avoided this type of situation forever. It was in the unofficial job description but Anna really, really hated this closet.
He’d noticed her shallow breathing. It was evident something was w r o n g. But right now, it wasn’t a good time for things to go wrong ; not when they were already in the middle of danger. So he did the first thing he thought of to keep the situation under control. Flynn’s hand gripped her wrist and then she was pulled closer to him, both arms wrapped around the younger girl in an embrace, his plan was to distract her, even if only momentary from whatever was going on in her mind.
“Just a little longer.”
It was only a few minutes after, but the footsteps faded and the thief deemed it safe to escape. He was the first one out, and when it was confirmed that they were able to get away without notice, he ushered her to go in front of him. They took a left and then headed up some stairs, and then they were in another corridor. The courtyard was to the right ; that was their way out. Almost there.
─── ╭✿ ;; “If you’re so jealous, I’ll make sure to tip them off before I leave this stinky town.” Anna puffed her red cheeks full of air. It was an empty threat that came from the passionate ginger’s mouth.
That’s one thing Anna would never do to a fellow thief. It’s hard enough out there in the world with everyone against you, the last thing they actually needed was to worry about their own kind. Anna was mostly talk but she didn’t see why he’d want that sort of attention. This thief preferred to go unnoticed by the higher ups.
Anna tried her best not to groan when he suggested they hide, but what other option did they have? She had to swallow the fear that was beginning to scratch at her mind. Inside the closet, Anna inhaled deeply and held her breath. To make sure her chest wouldn’t smash into his, she stood up as straight as she could with her back pressed against the wall.
“Okay… um… ho-how long d’you think we’ll be in here…?” She whispered softly. It was a dumb question but one she needed to know.
The footsteps were getting closer so she clasped her hands over her mouth, otherwise her nerves would get ahead of her brain and she’d make their hiding spot known.
Their close proximity made it nearly impossible to focus anywhere other than on her. Silently, he was regretting the decision to hide in here ( even though there wasn’t much choice ), merely because of how a w k w a r d this was. Flynn was okay with the ladies. Hell, some might even label him as smooth, but it was never a constant thing ; he’d flirt, but then he’d be gone before anything else could happen. And with Anna– .. well, that’s not the kind of relationship they had.
Did they even have one? Friendship, acquaintances, partners–
He listened to the footsteps outside the door. It was a distraction from all of this. They’d have to stay like this for at least five minutes before it would be positive that the coast was clear. And they couldn’t go by fast enough.
─── ╭✿ ;; ”Ew, earn my money? Phu-lease! What kind of girl do you think I am?”
She wrinkled her nose, sticking her tongue out with distaste.
Yeah right— she’d never give this lifestyle up.
It was more than just thrilling, every day was a new adventure. In the six years she’s been out in the real world, Anna has experienced life more than inside Arendelle’s walls. It didn’t help that Anna kept imagining hilarious faces on her parents if they ever found out what kind of life their little Princess was living.
Anna scratched furiously at the side of her head, “Okay, okay, you have a point. I’ll try to get it later…” There was simply no way she was starting her collection over again. She felt like a kid the way he spoke to her, so she nudged him with her elbow. ”Yeeesh.”
“L a t e r,” was his response, much later– when they least expected it, and then that’s when he’d come back. “–but I don’t think you’re gonna be able to come with me. They’ve got you on their radar. They’re not looking for me right now. Not gonna’ lie.. I’m kind of jealous.”
Flynn checked around the upcoming corner, but held out his hand so she wouldn’t advance when his eyes laid on a guard that was coming their way. “Shit, back up. There was a closet, let’s hide in there for a few minutes until he passes.” And then he took her hand and pulled her toward the door that he spoke of, his free hand grabbed the knob and pulled the entrance open. When they entered, it was a tight squeeze, both barely just fitting inside– but when you were in situations like these, you needed to be able to improvise.
─── ╭✿ ;; Anna squinted her worried eyes at him and wrinkled her brows together. She hadn’t been around Flynn for very long but she was beginning to grow immune to that damn smile of his, though it still made her heart pump blood faster than normal.
Stupid idiot with his stupid face, using it against her. Sometimes she wondered if he did that on purpose, flash that charming smile of his just to ruffle her feathers. Anna rolled her eyes, brushing off the comment. “I wonder how attractive it’d look if you were behind bars.”
“Aw don’t worry, I still need you. For plenty of things, you’re my wing man!” She would have to coax him into giving her one, though at a much different time. The iron chains fell to the ground with an echoing clang and Anna rubbed her bony wrist, examining it for any bruises. “Tell me about it, I can’t wait to get out— oh hh… speaking of needing things, I need my stuff.”
When she was arrested, her satchel and weapons had been confiscated. If they needed to fight with guards, she was going to need all her equipment.
“Ha. That’s funny. You know, if this whole thieving work isn’t cutting it for you, you should try to be a comedian. I’m sure people would pay good money to see you.”
Great, that was just one more thing they had to worry about. “Yeah– and if I said no, would you have a fit? Because me sneaking in her to free you is kind of a risk in it’s self, and yet here you want us to go find your supplies, break into wherever it’s being held, steal it and then sneak out without being caught? Does that sound logical in any way?”
