Anna swallowed back her little nervous sort of gasp, and in another nervous habit, reached up to push her hair behind her ear.
”Well. I mean. There’s- a town- not far from here, right? We could just…go…over there.”
Could he hear her heart beating? He could probably hear her heart beating. Oh boy.
Yup, this was totally worth playing dumb. She was literally putty in his hands and he was more than willing to play with her.
“Or we could do something much more appealing. I’m already half way there, so–”
There wasn’t much else that needed to be explained and whatever questions existed were soon lost when his lips connected with hers in a rather p a s s i o n a t ekiss.
Oh, okay, okay, this was happening. Not only was she now backed into a tree, but it was the very tree she’d kicked his shirt behind. If he leaned over enough, he might see the collar sticking out. ”R….right.” Stay true to your word, Anna. Don’t back down now! Shit. But also don’t look at his arms- or his shoulders- or his— anything bare.
Her wandering eyes were noted. “–hey, I’m up here.”
Oh, he had already caught sight of the familiar material behind the tree, but he didn’t bother to s a y anything. He was having far too much fun watching her squirm around.
“So, what am I supposed to do since I am now missing an essential part of my outfit?”
“Of course I am!” Alert, alert, he is onto you. But she would much rather have him just be on top of her. “Why would I keep your shirt from you? Ppfhfhpptt, that’s ridiculous. There is no reason why that would be a thing I would do, Eugene.” Abort, abort.
–and slowly she was backed up against the tree that stood tall behind her, her back hitting the trunk as his hand rested on the bark beside her face – he leaned in, close enough to see the freckles on her nose.
“Yeah, there would be no reason for you to do that, right?”
“That’s t o o b a d.” Wow wow wow. Not bad at all. She’d seen the sight before- and more- But not dripping with water. “Coulda been taken off by little critters by now.”
His brow rose at her comment ; definitely suspicious behavior. He stood up from the fallen log and then slowly advanced toward her, arms naturally folding over his bare chest.
“–hmm. Are you sure you don’t know where it went?”
She watched his fingers, hypnotized. He really did know what he was doing, didn’t he? Impressive. She was very practiced, could put her hair in twin braids within a minute flat, but the very fact that he could do this at all made something warm curl in her stomach.
“That’s really sweet. And it’s- nice, too. I mean, it feels- it feels nice, it’s relaxing, to get my hair braided.”
Her eyes fell to the ground and she developed quite the frown.
"Elsa used to braid my hair, when we were kids. All the time. I’ve missed it a lot. But…I think, just between the two of us- you’re better at it.”
When he noticed the change in her tone, his hands slowed down just a bit as he listened to her speak of her past. “Hmm.”
As he finished up the braid he was working on, he wrapped the tie around the hair so that it’d stay in place and then started to gather the rest of her hair for the other braid.
“Well, I do pride myself on my skills. One might even go as far as calling me multi-talented.”
He was taking his time as one piece of her hair twisted around another, a small smirk forming at the expression on Anna’s face.
“Hey, believe it or not, I used to be pretty g o o d with kids. There was this one little girl who had a knack for getting into trouble ; she’d always come back to the orphanage with twigs in her hair and– it was just all messed up. So I learned how to braid, and that ended up being a thing we did each day.”
